Six Days, One Amazing Itinerary
Listen. I’m going to be honest with you.
I am a “let’s wake up at 7 AM and do six things before lunch” kind of traveler. My partner loves a slower pace, and I love adventures, which means our trips need a home base that supports both styles beautifully.
When we started planning our Florida trip, I had a list. A long, joyful one. Beach time, obviously. But also: explore Bradenton, hit downtown Sarasota, walk the Riverwalk, try at least three local restaurants, get one of those sunset photos that make your Instagram look like a travel magazine, check out IMG Academy, find a great coffee shop, swim, paddleboard, eat seafood, and squeeze in a putt-putt game.
The goal was finding somewhere that’s a launchpad AND a destination. A place you love coming back to after a packed day.
Enter Cedar Run Resort Vacation Rentals. And honestly? Chef’s kiss. Top-tier launchpad energy.
Here’s the day-by-day, because I know you fellow adventure-loving travelers want the goods.
Day one: Arrived around 3 PM. Unpacked in twelve minutes flat because I’m efficient like that. Immediately went to scout the area. Found a fantastic taco place in Bradenton. Came back, swam, won at jumbo pong (my partner says it was beginner’s luck, it was not), slept like a rock.
Day two: Anna Maria Island. Got there by 9 AM. Found a parking spot like a champion. Walked the pier, ate breakfast at this little spot with the best coffee I’ve had in months, swam in the Gulf, collected shells like a six-year-old, and was back at the pool by 2 PM for round two. The afternoon was the water slide. So much water slide. I went down it six times. I am 38 years old and I have zero regrets.
Day three: Bradenton exploration day. Walked the Riverwalk, hit some shops downtown, found a brewery with outdoor seating and live music, ate an amazing amount of grouper sandwiches. Came back at sunset, sat by the pool with a drink, watched the sky do its purple-pink magic.
Day four: Sarasota day. Forty-minute drive and worth every mile. Spent the morning at St. Armands Circle, walked Siesta Key for a couple hours, ate fresh seafood for lunch. Came back, took an actual nap (a NAP, in the middle of the day, this is what vacation feels like), played corn hole with our neighbours-for-the-week, made dinner together in the kitchen.
Day five: Lazy morning, by design. Coffee on the patio. Bird-watching, which I never thought I’d be into, but apparently I am now. Did a self-led tour of the IMG Academy area because my brother is obsessed with sports, and I needed photos to send him. Lunched at a place a local recommended. Beach again in the late afternoon, this time at a different stretch we hadn’t tried. Sunset paddleboard. Lifetime memory unlocked.
Day six: The “we want to stay forever” day. Slept in. Made the world’s biggest breakfast. Played mini golf on the property, which somehow turned into a full tournament with the family in the unit next door. Beach one last time. Came back, packed slowly, savored every last moment.
You’ll notice something about that itinerary. We did a LOT. And it was possible because of where we were staying.
The location was clutch. Ten to fifteen minutes from Anna Maria Island meant we could hit the beach without losing half the day to driving. The kitchen meant we could grab a quick breakfast at home before adventures and save restaurant budgets for the dinners that mattered. The amenities meant that on the days we wanted to “stay in,” we still had plenty to do. The high-speed WiFi meant I could plan tomorrow’s adventures from a poolside lounger.
The dog-friendly piece was huge for us, too. Bringing our pup along meant she got beach time, walks, and exposure to a whole new environment. She came home a more confident, happier dog. Honestly, we all came home as better versions of ourselves.
A few highlights I have to mention:
The heated pool. “Heated pool” sounds like a small thing until you’ve experienced one on a slightly cooler evening and felt the magic. This was a luxury I now require in life.
The board games. We played a delightful round of Sorry at midnight on day five. My partner, the world’s most relaxed man, got animated about a strategic move. It was beautiful.
The other guests. There’s this lovely camaraderie among people staying at the same place. We made friends with a couple from Ohio and ended up swapping restaurant recommendations and beach tips for an hour by the pool. Their kids and our dog became fast friends. So sweet.
If you’re a high-energy traveler who wants a home base that fuels every adventure, who loves great amenities AND loves exploring, who values a comfortable space to recharge between escapades, this is your place. Book it. Pack big. Have the trip of your life.
