Eastern Time Zone

EST, or Eastern Standard Time, is five hours behind Coordinated Universal Time and the standard time zone in most of the United States, parts of Canada, South America (Panama and Colombia), the Caribbean islands, and Georgia in the US.

Contrary to other time zones, the Eastern Time Zone does not observe Daylight Savings Time, making it wiser for cities and regions in Georgia to check local times before scheduling appointments or making calls. To find out exactly when it is, this online clock converter provides quick answers.

The United States started using a standard time zone in 1883, led by railroad companies. This enabled different railway companies to synchronize their clocks. Over time, however, the new system quickly spread throughout the nation, and other industries adopted it. By 1938, however, the Interstate Commerce Commission took over time zone management from railroad companies. New rules were quickly implemented, with the westward movement of time zone boundaries being determined more by commercial and social factors than geography.

Current residents of Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia are located within this timezone, as well as portions of Florida and Georgia. It is separated from Central Time by a line 67 degrees 30 minutes west of the prime meridian.

A few places fall between the Eastern Time Zone and Central Time Zone. Indiana and Tennessee feature this time difference by placing counties east of a dividing line on Eastern Time while those west are on Central Time; additionally, some parts of Maine and Vermont use both time zones simultaneously.

If you want to contact someone in the EST zone, try calling them between 6 AM and 2 PM for optimal results. This gives you a higher chance of reaching them during their working hours, while reaching out at other times may not work effectively. It is not advised to get people in this region at non-working times.

Central Time Zone

The Central Time Zone is one of North America’s two primary time zones, home to nearly a third of US residents. Situated six hours behind Coordinated Universal Time and stretching from northern Canada in the west all the way south to Costa Rica near the equator in the south. This time zone encompasses parts of Mexico, most of the United States, and most of Canada, several Caribbean territories, and some areas in South America. Many states in this zone use Daylight Saving Time by setting their clocks forward one hour during summer.

US states recognize five official time zones: Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone and Alaska Time Zone cover only Alaska; Mountain Time Zone and Central Time Zone cover states in the Midwest and Southwest regions, respectively; while Eastern Time Zone encompasses most states along the East Coast. A few cities outside the US operate under multiple time zones and may use different systems for managing daylight savings time.

The Central Time Zone, more commonly referred to as CST in most states but sometimes CDT in others, can often be interchanged; when scheduling meetings in this time zone, it’s advisable to meet between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM your time depending on if daylight savings time applies or not.

If you need to contact someone in another country, a time zone converter can help you figure out when it is in their time zone. Available online and offering several time zone conversion tools that allow users to enter an airport, city, or state and receive the time difference calculation, it even calculates DST automatically!

Time zones in the United States can be confusing, yet still manageable for those living far apart. Understanding time zone differences between states and bordering countries will ensure your emails and phone calls arrive on time.

Mountain Time Zone

Georgia lies within the Mountain Time Zone, four hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When traveling from other countries or territories using UTC timezones to Georgia, an extra four hours must be added to their local time.

A standard time zone is an area on Earth where a uniform standard time is observed for legal, economic, and social purposes. Each time zone covers approximately 15 degrees of longitude; however, this varies according to country or region. People in an individual time zone generally adjust their clocks by one hour annually following Daylight Saving Time rules.

U.S. residents can choose among six time zones: Eastern, Central, and Mountain time zones are most often encountered. Each time zone has its own set of regulations regarding adjusting clock time, depending on whether a state observes Daylight Saving Time (DST).

The Eastern Time Zone is the most prevalent in the US and used by most cities and states – including Georgia – including UTC, which lags five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Additionally, this timezone observes DST during summer.

On March 14th, 2021, America/New York Timezone switched to Daylight Saving Time (DST), delaying sunrise and sunset times by one hour compared to Atlanta. This is also true for states such as Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey that observe DST.

The Central Time Zone is one of the two most prevalent time zones in the US and extends through much of Georgia and other states and territories. It is based on Coordinated International Time (CIT), four hours ahead of the Universal Time Code (UTC). Daylight Saving Time implementation varies based on which CST region applies it.

Pacific Time Zone

The Pacific Time Zone spans western North America, stretching across parts of the United States, Canada, and most of Mexico. In both cases, PST or PDT is typically abbreviated, but some Mexicans refer to it by its local name, Zona Norte, instead of Pacific Standard Time. As its name implies, it is one of eight daylight-saving time zones and eight hours behind Coordinated Universal Time.

Time zones are rules and standards agreed upon by people in a geographical area to govern how time should be used in that location. While these standards often depend on the distance between places, they can also consider weather, geography, economics, and political factors. While most countries have one central time zone, such as Alaska or Hawaii, other locations, such as Pacific Time Zone, which operates UTC-8 during winter and UTC -7 during daylight saving is used extensively by California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada as well as some areas in Baja California Mexico.

Georgia lies within the Eastern Time Zone (EST). This daytime-only time zone does not observe Daylight Saving Time during winter months; however, during the summer months, they switch over. Use an online time zone calculator to compare times between Georgia and other locations more accurately.
